Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about using KL Vibe.
What is KL Vibe?
KL Vibe is a free community events calendar for Kuala Lumpur. Browse what's happening
on any date, and sign up to share your own events with the community.
Do I need an account to view events?
No — anyone can browse the calendar and view event details without signing up. You only
need a free account if you want to create your own events.
Where are the pasar malam (night markets)?
Pasar malam run on the same night every week, so they don't sit well on a
date-based calendar. They have their own page:
Pasar Malam in KL & the Klang Valley —
grouped by night, starting with tonight, with times, areas and directions. Each listing
shows when we last checked it, because pasar malam move and get cancelled more often than
you'd expect. One-off bazaars and weekend markets still live on the main calendar.
How do I search for an event?
Use the Find bar above the calendar. It searches
every upcoming event, across all months — not just the month you happen to
be looking at — so a September gig turns up even if you're viewing July. Just tap the bar
without typing and you'll get quick shortcuts for Tonight,
This weekend and Next 7 days (each showing how many events
it has), the category chips, your recent searches, and what's
popular right now. Results are grouped by when they happen; tap one to jump
straight to it on the calendar. On a phone the bar opens into a full-screen sheet so you get
the whole keyboard and list.
Can I filter events by category?
Yes — the category filter lives inside the Find bar. Tap the category area
on the right of the bar and pick one or more of Sports, Music & Concerts,
Arts & Culture, Food & Drink, Markets & Bazaars, Family & Kids,
Talks & Workshops or Other. Each chip shows how many events it
has this month, and empty ones can't be tapped, so you never land on a blank month. Active
categories show as removable tags in the bar (tap the ✕ on a tag to drop
it), and the month count next to the calendar title becomes a
"N of M shown" pill so it's always obvious a filter is on. The filter
resets to All whenever you reload, so you can't accidentally hide events
without realising. Events are sorted into categories automatically from their title and
description, and can sit in up to 3 categories at once.
How does the calendar work on my phone?
On a phone, each day shows small coloured dots — one per event, with a
gold dot for VIP events — plus a count on busy days, since full titles don't
fit in a narrow cell. Tap any day to open a readable list of that day's
events right below the calendar, showing each event's time and category. The
page scrolls the list into view for you, so you can see it straight away
without hunting below the fold. Tap Open day → (or any event) for the full
details, or + Create to post something on that date.
How do I create an event?
Log in, click any date on the calendar, then tap Create event (on a phone,
+ Create in the day list does the same). Add a name and pick a date — those
two are all we ask for; everything else is optional. You can also add a description, times
(or tick All day), a venue, a ticket or info link, whether
it's free entry, a category, and a
photo. The venue and category fill themselves in as you type where we can
guess them — tap either to correct it. Once you post, we show you the event with a
Share link ready to paste into a group chat.
Can I add a photo to my event?
Yes! In the create-event window tap Add a photo (or drag & drop an image
onto it). Photos are automatically resized and optimized in your browser
before upload, so they stay sharp but load fast — you'll see the final size and dimensions
once it's attached. Tap any event photo to view it full-size.
What is the "All day" option?
Tick All day while creating an event to set it to run the whole
day (00:00–23:59) — the time pickers grey out automatically. Untick it to choose specific
start and end times.
Can I make an event repeat weekly or monthly? 🔁
Yes! In the create-event window, use the 🔁 Repeat option and choose
Weekly or Monthly, then pick how many times it should
repeat (up to 12). KL Vibe creates all the occurrences in one go — same day, same times —
so you don't have to fill the form again and again. A repeating event counts as a
single creation against your daily limit, and deleting any one occurrence removes
the whole series together.
Are there limits on creating events?
To keep the calendar fair and spam-free, each member can create up to
5 events per day (resets every night at midnight Malaysia time,
GMT+8), with a short 30-second cooldown between events. Each event
can span at most 50 days. The create-event window tells you when you're
running low — it stays quiet otherwise. Invite 5 friends who join and verify their
email and the daily limit comes off your account for good — see
Profile → Settings → Invite friends for your link.
How do likes / saved events work?
Logged-in members can save any event by tapping the ring on its card — tap
again to remove it. You can save each event once, and everyone can see an event's total
count. Everything you've saved is waiting in
Profile → Saved events, soonest first (events more than two days past drop
off on their own).
What are the badges next to people's names?
Every member has an achievement rank that levels up as they create more
events. Your icon evolves from 🌱 Newcomer → 🧭 Explorer → 🔥 Enthusiast →
😎 Trendsetter → 🌟 Rising Star → 🏆 Legend, all the way to 👑 KL Icon at
1,000 events. The icon appears next to your name on every event you post.
What's on my profile page?
Click your name in the top bar to open your Profile. Your rank, progress to
the next one and how many events you've created sit at the top, and below that are two tabs.
Saved events opens first — the events you've saved, soonest first.
Settings holds everything else: your
colour theme, your invite link,
email updates on or off, change password, and
delete account. Your account email is shown at the top and can't be changed.
Can I change how the site looks?
Yes — Profile → Settings → Appearance has
six colour themes: Default, Candy 🍭, Sunset 🌅, Ocean 🌊,
Dark 🌙 and Rainbow 🌈. Your pick is saved to your account, so it follows you to
any device you log in on.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Profile → Settings and scroll to Delete Account at
the bottom. Tap Delete my Account, enter your password to confirm, and
that's it. This permanently removes your account and every event you've created,
along with their photos — it can't be undone, so do take a moment before confirming. If you'd
rather just stop the emails, Email updates in the same tab turns them off
and keeps your account.
What are the panels below the calendar?
Two live leaderboards: Top Monthly Contributor lists the members who
created the most events this month, and Trending Liked Events shows the
most-liked events happening around now (last month, this month, and next month).
Tap any trending event to open it — the calendar jumps to the right month
for you, even if it's not the one you're looking at.
Why do some days show a holiday?
KL Vibe automatically marks Malaysian public holidays (Kuala Lumpur) on the
calendar so you can see the occasion for the day at a glance — handy when planning events.
Tap the day to see the holiday name. The holiday list is kept up to date from a public
holiday source.
What does the VIP 👑 highlight mean?
VIP events are shown with a golden highlight and a 👑 crown so they stand
out on the calendar (and as a gold dot on phones). VIP status is granted by our team to
selected members and their events.
Can I edit an event I posted?
Yes. Open the day your event is on and click Edit on your event card.
You can change the topic, description, dates and times, and replace or remove the
photo. You can edit your own events; admins can edit any event.
Can I delete an event I posted?
Yes. Open the day your event is on and click the 🗑️ trash icon in the
corner of your event card. You can delete your own events; our admins can
remove any event if needed.
Can I share an event, or add it to my own calendar?
Both. Every event has its own shareable page — tap Share ↗ on any event
card to copy the link, which previews properly when you paste it into WhatsApp, Telegram or
Facebook. On that page, Add to my calendar downloads the event straight into
Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or Outlook. No account needed to open a shared link or save
it to your calendar.
How far ahead can I browse and create events?
The calendar lets you browse from 4 months back to 8 months ahead of today.
When creating an event you can pick any date within 1 year before to 1 year
after today, and events can span multiple days (up to 50 days).
Can my account be banned?
Accounts that misuse the platform may be banned by an admin. A banned member can still log
in, but cannot create events, and their existing events are hidden from the
calendar. If the ban is lifted, their events become visible again.
Is my account information safe?
Yes. Passwords are stored as secure one-way hashes (never in plain text), all pages are
served over HTTPS, and we apply rate-limiting and anti-bot measures to protect the site.
